The Gateway Arch is the centerpiece of the park, commemorating the spot where Lewis and Clark set off to explore the west in 1804. The Old Courthouse is there to explore, too, so you and your family can learn bits of history about the famous trials that took place there. The Gateway Arch Museum is also a fine, family-friendly educational resource. The area is a great place to visit with your RV because there are at least two dozen RV parks of various sizes and kinds within the city limits or just beyond them.

As far as renting an RV goes, there are, quite literally, hundreds of choices within a dozen miles of the city center. The park itself is open from 5 a.m. until 11 p.m. daily, except for holidays. The visitor center and museum are in the same building, and they're open from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. during the summer and 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. at all other times. The park is in downtown St. Louis, MO, so visiting any time is good.

It's exceptionally rare for the park to close for unplanned events, but it does sometimes happen. Additionally, certain parts of the park might close from time to time. For example, as of May 2024, the Old Courthouse is currently under renovation. Check this webpage for the latest information about the park. There is nowhere to park a vehicle within Gateway Arch National Park. Rather, there is a parking garage across the street called the Stadium East Parking Garage. The special rate for park visitors is $9 for five hours. It's important to note that on days of St. Louis Cardinals home games, you have to reserve your parking spot by 11:59 p.m. the day before the game takes place. If you do not, then even if you can find a spot to park, which is doubtful, then you will pay full price to park in that garage. The parking garage has a height limit of 6 feet, 8 inches, so it will not fit an RV of almost any kind. Therefore, you must leave your RV at whichever campground you choose and take your car. Alternatively, you can take public transportation.
