The Phoenix Film Festival (PFF), held each spring, showcases the best in independent movies and filmmakers. The first PFF took place in 2001 and has grown to become a nearly two-week event showing over 250 films. The nonprofit Phoenix Film Foundation hosts the festival, which takes place entirely on-site at the Harkins Scottsdale 101 Theatre in Phoenix. Winners at the 2024 festival included "Et Tu" for Best Picture and Best Screenplay and Robert Budreau as Best Director for "Queen of Bones." Become a PFF insider and sign up for updates on the event. Just go to the main festival page and scroll down to the “Become A PFF Insider” box. Enter your email address and then click “SIGN UP.”
At the Phoenix Film Festival, it’s all about movies. Independent filmmakers will show their feature-length movies as well as short films. Over the course of the festival, you’ll be able to meet with some of the directors and casts. You’ll also have the chance to attend seminars, workshops, and parties. Note that the festival lasts for 11 days and screens over 250 films. It’s smart to pace yourself and see the movies that interest you the most rather than try and cram in as many films as possible.
Duelies Sports Bar & Grill is right next to the Harkins 101. The menu offers appetizers, wings, salads, burgers, sandwiches, desserts, beer, wine, and cocktails. The Phoenix Film Festival is also accessible to those with disabilities. Amenities here include handicapped parking and wheelchair-accessible seating. The theater also provides free assisted-listening devices. There’s no on-site gift shop, but you can buy merchandise from the PFF online store. Purchase a T-shirt, sticker, or collector pin. You can order items online and then pick them up at the PFF office.
The address for the Phoenix Film Foundation is 7000 E. Mayo Blvd., #1059, Phoenix, AZ 85054.
The movie and event lineup for the 2025 Phoenix Film Festival will be announced soon. For the latest updates, visit the official event page. Previous festivals held an Opening Night kickoff with local restaurants popping up to serve some of their top dishes, in addition to a silent auction.
You won’t find RV camping at the theater grounds, but the Greater Phoenix area has plenty of RV parks to choose from. Family-owned and –operated Desert Shadows RV Resort has just about everything you can imagine in terms of amenities. This location has 20-, 30-, 50-, and 100-amp electrical hookups, water and sewer hookups, full laundry facilities, pool tables, pickleball and shuffleboard courts, exercise classes, dances, and much more. Another place to consider is the North Phoenix Campground. Amenities here include biking and hiking trails, a pool, and Wi-Fi. Since you’ll already be in Phoenix for the film festival, get out and explore other parts of the city. Bring the kids to the Phoenix Zoo and Arizona Science Center, or try a challenging hike to the top of the Freedom Trail. In order to camp and do all sorts of fun things in Phoenix, you’ll need your own RV. If you don’t yet have one, RVshare has tons of options ranging from towables to fully souped-up Class A behemoths.
If you prefer traditional lodging instead of camping, try out the Hyatt House North Scottsdale, close by the Harkins 101. This smoke-free Hyatt property has a concierge, a fitness center, a pool, and dry cleaning. Splurge on a suite at the Home2 Suites by Hilton Scottsdale North. The property offers Wi-Fi, free breakfast, free parking, a fitness center, an outdoor heated pool, and gas barbecue grills.
The festival’s location is in Northeast Phoenix, literally right off Exit 34 of the AZ-101 Loop. The AZ-101 Loop does what its name suggests; it loops around much of the metro area. It's convenient for communities like Peoria, Sun City, Scottsdale, Tempe, and Mesa. The 101 Loop connects with other major roadways like Interstate 17, AZ-51, AZ-202, and U.S. Route 60, making it easy to get to the PFF site.
Free parking is available for visitors in a lot on Scottsdale Road. You'll find this lot if you arrive via the 101 Loop or Mayo Boulevard. This lot also has spaces to accommodate buses and RVs. Though other parking lots are open during the festival, some charge a daily fee.
Check the main festival homepage for ticket availability and pricing for the 2025 event. The PFF Ticket Center is right by the theater; you can purchase tickets in person here.
