Situated as the sole campground on the west side of the park, Timber Creek Campground stands approximately eight miles (13 km) north of the Grand Lake entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. Nestled along the Colorado River, this campground boasts an elevation of 8,900 feet (3,000 m). Due to a mountain pine beetle infestation that necessitated the removal of most trees, campsites here lack natural shade. Timber Creek Campground features a variety of sites, including single-family tent-only sites, walk-to sites, and RV sites (30 ft/9 m or smaller in length) without hookups. Campers with trailers or RVs should note the vehicle length limit of 30 feet (9 m), ensuring compliance with this restriction to camp at Timber Creek.
Rocky Mountain National Park beckons outdoor enthusiasts with its extensive network of over 350 miles (563 km) of hiking trails, providing ample opportunities for exploration on the west side. Trail options such as the Colorado River Trail, Coyote Valley Trail, and Green Mountain Trail await hikers. Anglers can indulge in the pleasure of fishing along the scenic banks of the Colorado River. Additionally, visitors can embark on unforgettable scenic drives along routes like Trail Ridge Road and Old Fall River Road, reveling in the stunning landscapes above the treeline. For those seeking a panoramic alpine experience, the alpine tundra and Alpine Visitor Center are noteworthy destinations within the park.
