Roundup, the exclusive equestrian-friendly camping facility within the park, offers a unique retreat situated 12 miles from Medora, ND, within Theodore Roosevelt National Park's South Unit. Commencing each season on the first business day in March at 8 am, reservations for Roundup ensure a coveted spot in this private campsite that can accommodate up to 20 people and 20 horses or 30 people when camping without horses. Notably spacious, Roundup accommodates large vehicles and trailers exceeding 50 feet, providing ample parking space for several horse trailers and/or RVs (lacking electric hook-ups).
To enhance the camping experience, Roundup features tenting pads, raised grills suitable for wood or charcoal cooking, and a covered picnic pavilion. The site is carefully designed to cater to equestrian enthusiasts, allowing horseback riding on all backcountry trails and cross-country (off-trail travel). However, for safety considerations, horses are restricted from nature trails (trails under 1 mile), as well as general-use campgrounds and picnic areas. Roundup invites visitors to embrace the tranquil beauty of Theodore Roosevelt National Park's South Unit while enjoying the unique privilege of exploring the trails on horseback.
