Thirty-five miles and a lifetime away from Legoland is the unique Lake Kissimmee State Park. Learn about the Florida Cowboys through live demonstrations in an 1876-era cow camp. Catch sight of wildlife like white-tailed deer, bald eagles, turkey, bobcats, and sandhill cranes. Hike the 13 miles of trails or go horseback riding on 6 miles of horse trails. The park has both primitive camping and full-facility campsites.
The best thing about this camp is its unique cowboy atmosphere. You won’t find another park like it. There is plenty to do for campers of all ages, and the park is pet friendly. The park is located on almost 6,000 acres that was originally used for raising cattle.
“We found it to be quite enjoyable; it’s off the beaten path, very large (the park itself) and has nice private camp sites with plenty of room. Most sites are compacted crushed shell and sand, very level with plenty of room for a screen room or tent plus chairs and whatever else you bring. They each have a fire ring and picnic table. Some sites (maybe 15 %) have concrete pads (I guess for Handicap access or large rigs). The bathroom/shower facilities are very close no matter what site you have and very clean. We are bike riders and absolutely loved the hiking trails. There are 2 trails that are each 6+ mile loops with many connector trails. These loops are very well marked and they provide a nice accurate map. The Trails are mostly wide pine forest with few roots and some sandy places but very few places that might require you to get off your bike and walk it. We loved riding them! We saw many deer while out. Also, do check out the Cow Camp, it’s a slice of FL history. On weekends, the lake is awash with Airboats, so you can pretty much constantly hear them roaring in the background, but we found it to be pretty benign, kind of like having a railroad track nearby. There is no wifi except at the
