Hells Gate State Park is located at the entrance of Hells Canyon. The deepest canyon in North America, it was carved by the Ske River. Local wonders include the 14-million-year-old basaltic columns and Nez Perce archeological remains.
Hells Gate State Park offers a huge selection of outdoor activities including water sports, wildlife viewing, and jet boat trips into Hells Canyon, fishing, biking and disc golf. There are trails for hiking, horseback riding, and biking. The Lewis and Clark Discovery Center is worth seeing.
“Physically beautiful state park perfectly set along the east bank of the Ske River. The campground is huge and well maintained. All sites have electric and water service, but not sewer service. Weekends are busy. Best to schedule a stay during the week. While you’re there, don’t forget to check out the displays at the park’s visitor center.” – Thomas, Google review
