Trailers and RVs are not permitted within the campground, and visitors are advised to take precautions against local wildlife, particularly marmots. These furry inhabitants of Mineral King can pose a threat to vehicles, as they are known to chew through car wiring and radiator hoses, potentially disabling vehicles. Marmot activity is particularly pronounced in Mineral King during the spring and early summer, so visitors should take measures to protect their cars from these curious creatures.
Amid the aspen trees and conifers, the campground offers a tranquil retreat near the Mineral King Ranger Station, approximately 26 miles (42 km) or a 1.5-hour drive from the Highway 198 junction in Three Rivers. While the campground provides a serene natural setting, services are limited, with Silver City Resort, located 2.5 miles (4 km) west of the campground, offering some amenities. Access to the campground involves navigating a narrow, winding, and steep road that is often deeply rutted and predominantly unpaved. It's important to note that this road is not recommended for longer vehicles, including trailers and other recreational vehicles, as it poses challenges due to its rugged conditions.
