An important Tigard camping site, Champoeg State Park Campground, which is pronounced “sham-poo-ey,” sits in the area where voters determined the fate of the Oregon Territory in 1843. The decision moved the Oregon Territory from Britain to the United States through the power of a single vote. This historical campsite holds many pieces of memorabilia of that time and is a must-visit for history buffs.
The wide-open rolling hills of the park reflects a bygone era. Here, there is truly a peaceful setting on which to rest your RV. In fact, the area is registered on the National Registry of Historic Places. The on-site store is a replica of the extended cabins used by settlers during the initial emigration to the area from the east coast. Hiking trails take you through nature’s abundance in all its forms.
“There are state parks, and there are Oregon state parks. Champoeg is one of the nicest parks I have ever been to. The campsites themselves are clean and spacious – we have stayed here a couple of times and had no issues getting our RV hooked up.” Bryce, Yelp Review
