The state’s department of fish and wildlife runs the Farm Island Recreation Area. It’s a popular spot for events, including the Riverman Sprint Triathlon and the Dutch Oven Cook-off. The Oahe Downstream Recreation Area features three different campgrounds for a variety of overnight accommodations. It is centered on a dam built by the Army Corps of Engineers in 1948. The scenic park offers plenty of amenities and lots to do, including disc golf, swimming, and boating.

The Left Tailrace Recreation Area sits on the shore of Lake Francis Case along the Missouri River. The park encompasses over 8,000 acres of public land, which features hiking trails, boat launches, and much more. Visitors can enjoy sightseeing, bird-watching, and other nature-based recreational activities.
Left Tailrace Recreation Area is another Pierre RV park owned and maintained by the Army Corps of Engineers. It is located just upstream from the Big Bend Dam. The park features an abundance of local wildlife, including tribal bison. There are plenty of opportunities to fish and hunt. Popular targets include waterfowl and game birds, but big-game hunting is bountiful, too. The campground is around 20 miles from Pierre. Kennebec KOA is located in Kennebec, South Dakota. It’s a beautiful tree-lined park with plenty of overnight amenities. Many visitors flock to the campground to enjoy the bountiful hunting grounds of South Dakota; however, guests can also enjoy hiking, boating, swimming, and other outdoor recreational activities.
Kennebec KOA Journey is a privately owned campground located near Pierre. Nearby attractions include four large lakes created by the Missouri River dams. These are popular spots for fishing, boating, and swimming. Meanwhile, the campground boasts plenty of in-park entertainment, including horseshoes, volleyball, and biking. Natural attractions include unique chalk-colored cliffs and earthen bluffs. Visitors can also walk in the footsteps of famous explorers by following the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail.

Fischers Lilly Park is a small RV campground located in Fort Pierre, South Dakota. Known as the meeting place of the Lakota and Lewis and Clark on their expedition, this is part of the National Register of Historic Places. It is also at the mouth of the Bad River, making it a great home base for anglers and boaters.
Fischers Lilly Park boasts 12 nicely maintained RV pads. The sites are first-come, first-serve. There is an in-park playground area for young children. There is also a boat ramp and walking bridge over the Bad River. The picnic area is an excellent covered spot for both small cookouts and larger get-togethers. You cannot beat the low Pierre RV park rates here.
“This campground is affordable, quiet, and has a beautiful view! What I love most about this park is that it is first-come, first-serve. We came just before a holiday and didn’t realize it. Most of the other parks with water and electric were taken. As a last resort, we tried this one. Wow! We were pleasantly surprised by this park. The view, the play park, and the riverboat access made our stay here very pleasant. The only thing that was a little bit of an inconvenience was the dump station. Little Bend RV Park is a privately owned campground on the banks of Lake Oahe. The campground boasts dirt roads, grassy hills, and astounding waterfront views. The new fish-cleaning station, built by the South Dakota Fish and Wildlife Foundation, is a great asset to anglers.
Little Bend RV park is a small park with just 27 RV sites. Many of the campers opt to stay for the entire year, but single-night camping is available. The campground amenities are rugged but clean. There is even a pool for families to cool off in. It’s a great place to relax and unwind under some shade trees.
