This state park sits on the top of a granite mountain, overlooking the High Desert’s Antelope Valley. From the peak of Saddleback Butte, you can see a major portion of the Mojave Desert. You’ll also get a good look at some Joshua trees, which are tive to the area.
Even if you don’t do anything except hike during your stay, you’ll go home with great memories of Saddleback Butte State Park. The trails offer a varying degree of difficulty, and the one that winds around the base of the butte is for day-use horse riders. The visitor center has exhibits that teach you about the region’s history and culture.
“…The views are beautiful over the entire valley: 360 degrees at the peak. Much of the trail is very soft dirt so bring shoes you can use to step into the dirt. Bit of a workout on your knees. There’s sturdier ground towards the top…” – A.T., Yelp Review
A paved lot behind the fairgrounds acts as an RV Park in Lancaster. The spaces can hold rigs that are 60 feet long, and each site has full hookups. Although you won’t find a rec room for billiards nor a clubhouse for parties, you’ll have all the necessary amenities.
This RV parking facility is not far from places where you can enjoy off-track betting or playing bingo. In the field across the street, you can dry camp for free if you find that the park is full. Reservations are not accepted, so the sites are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
“An excellent place to stage your trip the night before you drive south through Los Angeles…it can be ever so unnerving…to drive your rig through L.A. traffic. Leaving this campground gets you through the majority of L.A. without the white-knuckle traffic that can challenge even the most seasoned RV’er…While not a destination resort type campground, this is a very good good place to set up if you are coming from the the north or the Sierras and just need to get off the road for a night.” – W.N., Yelp Review
